Wednesday WrapUp Slow Week

A woods fairy with her flower

Welcome

Today’s wrap up of the week’s work include: fairy first birthday card, Fathers Day post/photo, CARA app for artists, and blog changes.

Father’s Day

Fathers Day message post

We enjoyed a celebration of our granddaughter’s graduation last weekend in Lake Stevens. On our way, we found this path to walk on with Guthrie. It’s a beautiful, secluded spot behind the rest area. I snapped this phot and decided to post it as a Fathers Day card on our family chat. You have permission to use it for personal use and can download the full sized version here: Fathers Day Message. We all enjoy the outdoors and nature, so it’s perfect for the fathers in our family who love taking their own children and grandchildren for hikes in the woods.

Birthday

For my great-granddaughter’s “fairy first” birthday, I combined two of my art pieces. Her mother is planning a fantastic fairy party for her, and I can hardly wait to see her– she’s just begun walking and should be a delight to watch smash her cake under the fairy archway her mother created for her.

So for her family chat message, I placed my fairy asset onto the forest rabbit pattern:

The fairy I drew practicing a technique from Jennifer Nichols, which I wrote about here: characters. Stephanie Kiser Coleman’s Spring Seeds included a fun activity of drawing shapes of bunnies in different positions and then adding a few lines to make them come to life. I loved them so much I created this pattern with the bunny rabbits. I wrote about that here: Spring Seeds 0123. I needed a background for my fairy card, and this worked out perfectly.

You can join Jennifer’s Creative Journey Community here [affiliate link] and find Stephanie’s course next spring as part of her community [ with free and paid parts] — The Artist’s Greenhouse.

CARA

Many of my friends from Jennifer’s community are joining CARA, a beta app for artists that discourages and does not allow AI images or the use of images on its site for AI bot-grabbing. I’m not sure how long it will last since it is volunteer development with funding by apparently one person. We all hope it will last because it’s founded by artists for artists to protect artist’s work.

I like it so far– so many of us are joining. I see the founders have added a payment option, which most artists thought was a good idea. I know IG is free, but then META owns you and your work, basically, at their terms. One of the nice things is that you can set up a Portfolio page so all your best work displays.

Find me on CARA here Sheri42. Hope to see you there.

Blog

I also spent time today fixing/updating links, text, and categories on this blog. I actually stopped writing a poem/photo every day, so I needed to explain that and change a few things here and there. I have another project for my family to work on instead and really also want to focus on my art. A poem a day was a challenge I gave myself sometime after retiring in 2016. I missed a few days for a hospital stay, but I did write a poem a day for several years. It was never just a poem, short and silly that they were. I also researched the topic and wrote a post with links to accompany each poem. I enjoy writing and enjoyed my poetic adventure, but I think I can switch to once a week now, don’t you?

Thank you

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope to see you on CARA. I think many of us are ready for a place that’s definitely taking the work of artists seriously. Let me know what you think.

What have you been up to lately? Have you blogged about it? Share a link to your art blog in the comments!

You’re welcome to follow this blog for art inspiration. We can share with #warmup4art to enjoy our work together! I look forward to your sharing and find me at @42Sheri, on Mastodon Sheri42, on Flickr teach.eagle Sheri 42.
