Daily Note

Every day, a photograph, a poem. Years ago these white flowers started growing on the parking / boulevard lawn, opening in the morning in a lovely display. I called them morning glories and was delighted to see them. They have slowly spread into the front lawn, which sees more sun, and I’ve snapped this picture to show how delightful they are to have. But, on reading about them, I discover “morning glory” is a common name for this weed field bindweed, which binds around other plants and strangles them. Luckily, the lawn is mowed so the spread is less. It’s been years and they have not spread to the neighbor’s yards, so whatever we’re doing to combat their spread seems to be working. Apparently, it is hard to eliminate them because they spread so easily— by just parts of the stem, the roots, the rhizomes, and seeds Read about them at Washington State Noxious Weed Control Board.. Be mindful of your neighbors.

Weed

White flowers in the lawn
Opening to morning’s light
A weed we mow to stop its spread-
Still, it’s morning show delights.
