Daily Note

Every day, a photograph, a poem. A week ago our daily walk was at one of our favorite summer spots just three miles away at Spring Canyon, part of Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area. Footprints covered the sand from people enjoying the cooling waters of the lake during the summer heat. Here, in early June, the reservoir behind Grand Coulee Dam is down to control the flow of melting glacial waters to prevent flooding down stream. As such, the water is too cold for swimming, as our Washington State Parks website explains how to take precautions.

And so, a poem…

Poetry

Waiting for Warmer Waters

Glacial lake, cold still in early June,
finds empty beaches of dimpled shores,
waiting for the sun-seekers
whose feet sunk in the sand, now
waiting for the warmer waters
that cool the blazing heat of summer.
