Daily Note

Every day, a photograph, a poem. Last night the cat stayed outside all night. She can enter and exit from the bedroom window if we leave it open. Directly outside the window is the potting stand, which has become her throne and watch tower; she can observe the entire backyard and who’s there from under the shelf where she hides and watches. Last night, she argued with a stray cat we call Pie [for piebald because he is black and white]. It was loud, but she stayed outside rather than return into the house for safety. So today, she’s asleep in Scott’s spot on the couch.

The lesson: If you stay up late, you have to sleep all day.

And so, a poem…

Lesson from the Cat

When you’ve been out
all night
the only thing to do
is curl up
in your favorite spot
and sleep
all day
