Daily Note

Every day, a photograph, a poem. I looked out our window this morning and found this strange sight. The arms of a cement truck, taller than the trees and between houses, stretch to fill a backyard with concrete. Some people have a lot of toys. I don’t have any idea why the backyard will be covered in concrete, but we saw the forms last week, and it looked like the entire backyard would now be cemented over. Luckily, in America, we still get to choose our backyard look. Ours is clumps of grass that grow in the dappled sunlight shining through the canopy of our giant sycamore tree. I choose that.

Poetry

Losing Green

Out my window
Green arms
Rise taller than the trees
Spitting concrete
Covering earth
Adding heat
Losing green.
