Daily Note

Every day, a photograph, a poem. On our daily we walk to Cole Park across the footbridge, we discovered more of the work of kids at play, building a fort near Fiddle Creek [dry in summer]. We see a path of rocks leading…. somewhere. Will they finish? We know it was inspired by their July teacher who knows the importance of the outdoors. We’ll see. It’s exciting to see kids outside playing.

When I was a kid, we were always outside. Supper was at 6 PM and we made it home for that, but then were off again to play hide n seek or tag, rig up cans and string between the two tree houses in the neighbor’s yards to communicate, all after spending the afternoon at the pool. We didn’t have a woods to play in, but the neighborhood belonged to us.

Poetry

Kids at Play

Below the footbridge
near the bed of Fiddle Creek
a path of rocks grows
from the hands of local kids
planning a fort,
a place of their own
in the local woods;
we’re watching it grow,
glad for their
time with nature.
