Here and There

Daily Note

Every day, a photograph, a poem. A year ago today I snapped this photo of a yellow butterfly in the lavender behind the bank on our walk through and past Cole Park. I took many pictures until finally the lens caught the butterfly, something most of us cannot do– catch a butterfly, the delicate little creatures who fly faster than we can grab, often faster than we can look up at close. I’m glad I was patient and determined to get the photo; I would not try to catch one, although, as kids, we chased and tried, to no avail. But sometimes, if you hold still and wait, they will land on you. That feels more special than capturing one, because they chose you. A slight difference in perspective.

If you live in Richmond, VA, visit the Butterflies LIVE exhibit of live butterflies in the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. See what you can view: Meet the Butterflies.

And so, a poem….

Poetry

Here and There

They fly here
land there
never too close
ever darting away
among the lavender
the butterfly
stops and goes
ever away
faster than our gaze
