July Doodle Seashore Stories Collection

About the Collection

This little hermit crab started it all. The collection is based on the: Eric Carle book, “A House for Hermit Crab.. I’m not using his style, but I’m including motifs for the characters in the story so my great-grandson can retell the story.

The palette is a mom-approved palette for the art — probably towels and rugs for Elijah’s bathroom, which is adapted from a Teela Cunningham Every-Tuesday palette for her Spring Polaroids.

Then I reviewed several pattern making classes from Jennifer Nichols’ Creative Journey Community, a subscription-based art community with artists from around the world, sharing kindly as we learn art together with Jennifer’s awesome Procreate classes. For subscription information, go here: Membership Information for Creative Journey Community.

It’s been quite a process [see the “Hermit” posts ]– drawing the assets for all the characters, trying out various patterns for the characters, revising them, and then developing coordinating patterns to match. I designed plaids, dots, paisley, stripes, and waves using the same color palette.

Today, I uploaded to my Seashore Stories Collection my 21 patterns, 7 designs, each in three different sizes. I see that I have one more basic pattern to include, so that will be 24 patterns of 8 designs, each in three different sizes to accommodate customer needs: wallpaper, home decor, fabric. I also entered the Kids Sheets Design Challenge.

I’ve ordered the Fill-A-Yard to proof the designs and see them printed on cotton cloth.

Shops

I had already posted some of the designs at these Sheri42 shops:

The Spoonflower designs are waiting for “proofing” to make sure the colors and printing is as the design intended. It’ll be about a month for that — with shipping as slow as it is.
