August Doodle Desert Sun

August Doodle: Weekly Prompts by Jennifer Nichols of @leila_and_po so you can work on them all week.

This week’s prompt:

August 1-5: Sun!

#weeklyartprompts and #weeklyartpromptsjennifernichols

My goal was to create a pattern– which is pretty hard to do with a landscape in Procreate. First I drew straight horizontal lines with a monoline brush across so they would match up. Then, on a layer below, I used the same width monoline brush to draw a landscape line, connecting the edges with the the horizontal lines in the layer above. I erased the extra part of the horizontal line and filled in the area below the line.

I repeated this for each land layer.

Then the details: different textures clipped to each layer, the sun, the cactus and shadows, the overall repeat pattern texture. The overall texture is on two layers, one multiply and one linear burn. The texture is a brush of Jennifer’s she shared with the community: Blotchy Rock. It really brought the color and the “desert: out.

I’ve been following Jennifer and taking her classes for almost three years now– and am so fortunate to have found such a positive teacher and community. These weekly prompts fit my schedule; they fit any style or medium.

I’m looking forward to the rest of the month AND the resources that Jennifer provides in the community: brushes, textures, Pinterest, classes. If you’d like to join, here’s the link: Creative Journey, a Jennifer Nichols community.
