Do This In Your Style

Yesterday I shared the  Weekly Prompts by Jennifer Nichols of @leila_and_po and today I completed another challenge by her: DTIYS: Do This In Your Style. You can see her sample next to mine.

I choose a style that’s a little more than flat– a bit of soft texture and gradients. The plants are stamp brushes I created, so it was fun to stylize them for this challenge.

My main goal for the challenge was to draw the person. Of course, I started out too small. I followed Jennifer’s technique from one of her classes: start with the wire frame, add the flesh, then the clothing. It really helps to work in this way to get the body right. Jennifer’s class shows not only the body and its proportions, but also face, hands and feet. My focus for this was going from wire frame to the person. I’ve work to do on face and hands.

If you’re wanting to learn about drawing people, her community and courses this month [August 2023] focus on designing characters. It will be a fun month! Check out the membership here: Creative Journey with Jennifer Nichols of @leila_and_po
