Daily Note

Every day, a photograph, a poem. I love looking up through the canopy of trees that shade us and watch the leaves in the breeze. This is the western cottonwood, whose leaves seem to glisten in the sun. Not just at the top, but on down through the tree as the sun filters through. Some people don’t like cottonwood for their fluffy, floating seeds. I find them graceful — as if their branches are reaching out and saying, “Welcome. Shelter here.”

For information about the cottonwood and it’s history, see Arbor Day website. For history and more, including identifying the four species by their leaves, see 8billiontrees.

.And so, a poem…

Sisters of the Sun

Cottonwood leaves—
sisters of the sun—
reflect the sun’s light
like a mirror,
sparkling while shading
as each leaf twists and turns
in the breeze
