Daily Note
Every day, a photograph, a poem. Years ago this locust tree fell on the power pole, sparking the transformer and shutting power to the town and the celebration by the river for July 4th. Real fireworks, for sure. Fortunately, power was quickly rerouted and now fire started. But it was an exciting day. And now the tree opens up the shadows to the light of the town and has become a pathway for kids who dare to balance and walk across this new route back to town. So the lovely locust tree is still another gift of nature.
Today is the day after my first cataract surgery. All my friends had better sight right away, but that is not my fate; I apparently have small eyes which are more susceptible to swelling. So, my eye will be foggy for a few days, progressively getting better. I’ll be looking for that light on the other end of the process… like the path across the locust, it’s a balance of struggle to improvement.
Note: Please excuse any typos or misspellings; it’s a bit hard to read right now.

Real fireworks; no fire—
Now a path for kids
Daring to balance
On their way from
The shadows of the woods
To the light of the town
In a game with friends
