Daily Note

Every day, a photograph, a poem. On our daily walk yesterday and today, we noticed again this September that the mushrooms are popping up. Mushrooms are amazing organisms, and south of us in Malheur National Forest of eastern Oregon is probably the largest organism on earth, and it’s a fungi! Almost all of a mushroom’s structure and processes occur underground; the mushroom is the autumn fruit.

Hidden Worlds

Buttons pop up
overnight
But underground
the web of its shoestrings
spread and search
for just the right source
to nurture the growing fruit,
the mushroom.
