Daily Note

Every day, a photograph, a poem. My granddaughter called to invite me to add to the giant granny square blanket she’s making for her daughter’s [my great-granddaughter’s] first birthday with a fairy theme. It will be 8 feet by 9 feet. She called her cousin, the mathematician and asked him how many 5 inch squares will she need. He quickly said, 272. So she got on the phone to grandmothers, aunts, cousins, and asked them all to help her make granny squares so she can put together this gigantic blanket. This will be fun!

When She Asks

When granddaughter
Asks for granny squares
For her daughter’s first year gift,
A giant granny square blanket,
That blanket will fill
With crochet love—
Stitches of time and memories
Of granddaughter giggles,
Chatter, and adventures—
Now a mother herself
With daughter, her own,
And love for past and future.
