Daily Note
Every day, a photograph, a poem. Behind city hall where we walk our dog, Guthrie, are three huge towers that carry electricity from Grand Coulee Dam.
If you don’t know the amazing story of Grand Coulee Dam, whose electricity helped the Allies win World War II, you might want to watch this almost hour long video of its history. We must thank President Frankly D Roosevelt for his vision in helping this happen.
The towers were built about ten years ago– I can hardly believe it’s been that long already. Building them is almost as amazing as the building of the dam. Watch this video of the reason and the building of the huge towers.
Anyway, as Guthrie and I walked back down the road on the hill by the towers, we noticed a flock of turkeys flying up from the hill top we’d just watch them waddle up. The sky was dark and the pink sunset had just ended so I wondered what had frightened the turkeys as they choose to land on the tall towers, safe from the probable coyote watching them. With the evening twilight a deep grey, I decided Guthrie and I should probably end our walk just outside of town, just in case what the turkey saw might like us too.
And so, a poem
Poetry
Turkey Tower
They flew in from the hillside
Sheri Edwards
where they waddled to the top
perhaps noticing coyote
lurking where he’d stopped
hiding in the bunchgrass
awaiting to catch
one fat, fresh turkey
he’d hoped he could snatch
but away they all flew
to the tower so tall
like a tree that is safety
safe from coyote, all.
