Making Art Everyday
Continuing Lisa Bardot’s MAE #makingarteveryday challenges, I painted with her Wonder Watercolors these beets. I always have good intentions for drawing every day, but I had gotten off track and lost confidence. January and MAE with Lisa’s easy-to-follow tutorials set me back on track.
The style is not realistic, but rather a simple, stylized representation of the topic. I like it because I can finish in one sitting.
I applied both her painting shading techniques and Calvin the Drifter’s selection / brightness strategy. I forgot to do Calvin’s selection / hue strategy on the leaves. I’m staying with the watercolors and the “rainbow outline” style for a while.
I also followed my strategy for making the motif transparent for reuse in other projects. See yesterday’s prompts for those steps and more information on both Calvin and Lisa: Watercolor Cat and Orange.
What’s Your Strategy for Inspiration?
Finding artists who help through simple tutorials to create daily art is what keeps me inspired to keep trying. I sometimes fall into the problem seeing everyone else’s realistic excellence and stylized uniqueness and then looking at my still novice attempts at creating art.
But everyone is at a different place, and I’ve certainly grown since I started taking lessons about three years ago. If I stop a daily practice, I stop improving. However, I was pleasantly surprised and encouraged as I began again to draw daily because I remembered many of the techniques learned from various artist teachers, Artist Gems, whom I have taken many classes. I could still apply the skills.
One tip I had to remember though was to increase the stabilization on each brush because my shaky hands create wobbly lines. That setting really helps my ability to smoothly draw in the sketch lines and paint strokes.
- Procreate Stabilization Tools
- Procreate Brush Stabilization: go to Attribute: Stabilization
Having that tool and tip of stabilization is also an inspiration that I can make art every day; it’s a help even for professional artists.
So what are you strategies for staying inspired? How do you sense the loss of confidence in other artists? What do you do to support them?
I write this blog– to document my art work in the hopes it helps others. You’re welcome to follow this blog for more art inspiration. We can share with #warmup4art to enjoy our work together!
