Daily Note
Every day, a photograph, a poem. I snapped this photo on January 3rd, 2024. From the kitchen window, the crab apple tree on the boulevard was covered at the tips of almost every branch with heavy raindrops from the steady drizzle on an overcast day. It should be snow. It should be cold. But it was probably 40°F. You could almost breathe in the wet along with the cold, but it is not the cold of a January day.
The crab apple tree looked like it was covered in crystals hanging at the ends of the branches. I couldn’t get a photo of that look; in the flattening 2d of a photo, we lose the rounded, varied look of each raindrop / crystal. So I snapped a photo of three such drops.
And today, those drops and the day are a poem:
Poetry
steady drizzle
grey clouds roll in low
Sheri Edwards
dropping rain in a steady flow
you can almost breathe the wet with the cold
as along every branch the rain rushes along
forming drops, heavy they hang, all day long
