I joined the Delores Naskrent Artistic Evolution Challenge. It’s for a week. I may be able to keep up. This is Day 5.
Yesterday we found textured surfaces and snapped photos of them to import into our digital software, in my case, Procreate. I created grey scale versions of the photos to use as textures over the whole canvas or the motifs in the canvas illustration.
Today we followed that process with portraits. I used my own photos of columbine from my garden, ripples in the sand, and myself. Gradient mapping adds color to the different values. Curves adjustment creates the contrast needed for adjust values and eliminating the white space. I also added a layer with just my earring and highlights which I clipped with gold glitter so they stood out.

Reflection
It’s getting easier to consider what to use for texture, how to adjust the texture with grey scale saturation, curves, gradient mapping, and changing blend modes on different layers to achieve an effect of color, texture, and content. I find it so fun to experiment this way– like remembering the gold glitter to enhance the dragonfly earring.
Poetry
I rather like the photo. I can see my grey hair and my wrinkles, showing a life well-lived and I know that I [We, Scott and I] have helped raise a family of good people all the way to grandkids and great-grandkids. And every day I have memories to hold of each one. Much of my art is for them. I try to consider their likes, their colors, their interests and for Christmas and birthdays create something for each one. I love them all.

Add a smile,
Mostly grey hair, tied back,
Memories daily with love of
All the great- and grandkids
