Daily Note

Every day, a photograph, a poem.

The photo above is from January 31st, 2022 at about 1:30 PM in the afternoon. You can see there’s a blanket of snow on the ground, but at this time the temperature is around 42°F. The early morning temperature was about 23°F and at midnight that day, the temperature was only 16°F. Luckily there was no wind and the skies were clear for a wonderful walk to Cole Park.

Today, though we have dangerous winds arriving with arctic air. The temperature this afternoon was only 4°F and was bitter cold. Luckily, the wind had not arrived. We’re teaching Guthrie how to run ahead of us in the truck on the road at North Dam to get his exercise in. His thick, furry coat keeps him warm, while we, even bundled up, are freezing.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill warning for our area.

But no matter the weather, the Oregon grape leave remain a stunning sight of reds and greens on winter days; color to lift the spirits.

And so, a poem…

Poetry

Evergreen Cold

Sunshine shimmers on winter leaves
evergreen above the blanket of snow
reds and greens in January
warm the spirit and the soul
