Daily Note
Every day, a photograph, a poem. Our winter family gathering for Christmas usually is not ON Christmas. This year we celebrated on December 28th. In 2015, we celebrated on January 17th. The photo above is from the night of January 16th of that year on our way to the gathering. This is Leavenworth, Wa whose entire town is like an alpine village. Each year they place probably millions of lights on the trees and businesses– so many that the whole area glows. It’s a popular tourist place at any time of year, but especially during the winter holidays.
The lights stay on well past the holidays so in January they hold events: Village of Lights / Winter Karneval / Fasching. So if you need a holiday vacation spot, this is one.
Leavenworth is in the Cascade Mountains on Highway 2 on the way between Everett and Spokane, a perfect place to stop, shop, and take a break from a long 4.5 hour drive. It’s only 2.5 hours from our house.
The lights are so pretty that just passing through I must snap a photo of the lovely lights. And so, a poem…
Poetry
Holiday Roadway
After the holidays
Sheri Edwards
The lights still delight
Splashes of color
Brighten the night
For those weary travelers
Still finding their way
The glistening trees
light the roadway.
