Daily Note
Every day, a photograph, a poem.
A year ago yesterday I snapped this photo while walking around Steamboat Rock State Park on Banks Lake. I loved how the setting sun cast long shadows of the poplar trees behind me, with me in the center. See the ice on the lake. Today, this spot would be covered with snow and the lake frozen even further out because we had that snow/ wind chill storm pass through on Wednesday. It’s been about 18°F, but today the white blanket of snow is still soft, just a bit crunchy because it was 31°F and the top of the snow melted and refroze a bit.
It doesn’t matter if the snow is soft or crunchy, Guthrie loves the snow. He runs circles around me as we walk, ears flapping, tail wagging, pure joy.
I, on the other hand, look forward to sunsets without the cold and snow. And so a poem about “before the storm.”
Poetry
Before the Storm
Browns and blues are winter’s hues
Sheri Edwards
When slipping on past yellows of fall;
White and blues sparkle winter’s news
When storms of snow cover us all.
