Daily Note
Every day, a photograph, a poem. Today we left Guthrie alone for the first time. We left the TV on with low volume and told him we’d be back. Lay down. Take a nap.
Yeah. We think our dog understands.
We drove to the local library so I could replace my library card. Very cool. It took about one minute. I also checked out a book called “Art That Changed the World” [DK Publishing]. Imagine. Art changes the world. It will be fascinating.
Then we enjoyed dinner at PK’s, one of our favorite restaurants that will soon be closing as the owner pursues business opportunities more conducive to a raising a family. Scott wanted a dessert, but we decided the best dessert might just be the appetizer bacon-wrapped dates. Mmmmmm. For our meal, I had chicken caesar salad and PK’s best fries. Scott had a divine veggie burger. Both, delicious, and I have some left over for lunch tomorrow.
Next, we ask each other, “Will Guthrie have been a good boy, home, alone, with the cat?”
We parked up at the edge of the property and walked back around to the front door, pausing to listen for whining or barking. Nothing.
Scott opened the door quietly and stepped in, quietly walking to Guthrie’s usual spot: on the rug in the bedroom. And there he was, standing up on the rug, looking for who had entered the house. Obviously, he’s not a watch dog. When the postman comes in the morning, Guthrie softly says, “Grrruff.” He hadn’t done any sneaky things, like chewing Scott’s shoes.
In other words, Guthrie is a good dog.
And, back to dinner. We snapped a photo of the bacon-wrapped dates for our granddaughter, who loves bacon. And so also, a bacon poem…
