Welcome!
On most Wednesdays, check this blog for a strategy, process, or reflection for illustration with the iPad app ProCreate. This Wednesday Wrap Up shares art in hearts, a live lesson from Jennifer Nichols of Leila and Po Studios.
Jennifer Nichols
I was inspired by Jennifer’s Instagram posts about her Live Lesson on February 5th for her Creative Journey community members. It’s a friendly and supportive community in which Jennifer takes an active part with participants, answering questions and encouraging everyone, providing live Q & A sessions for questions that arise in the community.
Throughout the lesson we learned about the selection tool, adjusting brush settings, blend modes, the liquify tool, and more, like adding glitter!

How to Add Glitter
One of the things we learned in the lesson:
Jenn’s finished Hearts
My Hearts
While following along, I created these hearts in my own way following her example and suggestions for possibilities. Her classes allow us to create our own versions in our own style, not just copy her example.

We created the hearts in Procreate using the symmetry tool, and then copied and adjusted them with the liquify tool to make them a bit different from one another. We applied different styles like watercolor, abstracts, masks, and details with micron pens and glitter, starting with learning to use the selection tool for coloring the hearts and adding detail stamps / abstracts.
Sharing in the community, we learned ideas from others. That’s how I got the idea for the black flower doodles and for this revision, making a valentines card:

Try It:
What are your Valentines Heart designs? Try other shapes or animals. Share your ideas.
Jennifer Nichols has so much to share about Procreate: lessons, styles of painting [pastels, watercolor, oils, chalk], free brushes and textures, and much more. In addition, the community is friendly and supportive, with many people joining in conversations and our zoom Question/Answer sessions. It’s wonderful to share with other artists and learn together. See her YouTube channel and a free Procreate Course to learn her style of teaching. Then join the community to catch a replay of the Hearts class.
If you decide to join, if you click “join here” I’ll receive a bit as an affiliate.
Even if you don’t decide to join, join in through her Weekly Prompts. Be sure to share on IG. Be sure to tag Jennifer Nichols and myself. Leila and Po / @42Sheri.
