Daily Note

Every day, a photograph, a poem.

Today is the Lunar New Year, the year of the Wood Dragon. John Lennon was born in the year of the Wood Dragon, October 9th, 1940. So it must true that it brings success, strength, health, and good luck when you consider his talent and success. Except that Putin was born in the year of the Wood Dragon on October 7, 1952, and that would be an evil kind of success. So I guess that the yin-yang is also true — that the universe lives in opposite, but interconnected forces of order and disorder.

I think we’re in the disorder phase right now, but perhaps the Wood Dragon will lead us back to order. The South China Morning Post says the Year of the Wood Dragon will bring “growth, progress, and abundance,” so that does sound like the positive side — progress means moving forward, not backwards in time with obsolete, punitive laws. Don’t you think? Let’s make it so!

Dragon New Year 2024

A dragon searches in the sky
a sign the new year now is nigh
the wood dragon will now be here
with strength, health, and luck this year.
