Nature’s Peace

Crescent Bay with logs floating in from other shores as the lake fluctuates in level

Daily Note

Every day, a photograph, a poem. Last Monday, I found the lake still, but fluctuating in levels as I stood watching the gathered logs floating in the lake, uplifted into the lake from other shores and ending up here from the changing levels. I videoed the changing lake levels:

When camping on a reservoir like Lake Roosevelt, be aware that the lake levels can change by several feet depending on the decisions made at Grand Coulee Dam to release or hold the water for different purposes—– irrigation, power, or flood control.

An hour later, the same bay looked like this, in the photo below. All the floating logs had been left on the shore as lake levels rose and then receded a bit. The peaceful reflection always stirs my imagination, thinking this reflection is a portal to another world.

Crescent Bay, still, at a high level, leaving the logs on the shore.

And so, a poem…. I zoomed in on the above photo:

Poetry

Nature’s Peace

When two worlds meet
in silent reflection
nature paints replicas
above the rippled sand
hiding below the still border
so the mind can find
the way through to peace,
a few moments away
from one’s troubles,
a step forward in
reclaiming one’s soul,
a breath on hold
to release in refreshed grace.
