No Buttercups Yet

Daily Note

Every day, a photograph, a poem. I’ve been looking everyday for a buttercup, one of the first flowers of spring. My friend found one already, but not me. I still only see the little worlds of moss and lichens and new sprouts. [Tiny Moss and Symbiosis]

Today, I found an interesting one: Steppe Mouse-Moss Coscinodon calyptratus.

It’s common in dryer areas like ours and is found east of the Rockies, but not on the western mountains, like the Cascades. I hope I’ve identified it correctly, but according to the pictures from my reverse image search, I think so.

I’m happy with these little worlds, but I’m excited for a buttercup. And so, a poem

Poetry

No Buttercups Yet

I’ve been looking for a buttercup,
a first flower of the spring,
but all I can find are the mini-worlds
of moss, lichens, and other things.
