Daily Note
Every day, a photograph, a poem. Two different thoughts today– a local basketball team at tournament and the Davenport Grand
Today Scott is still covering the basketball tournaments. It’s exciting because one of the players is a neighborhood kid who’s playing his last game with his teammates today. I was fortunate enough to have taught his mom. So, there’s a connection and a hope for him and his team. This year’s team has grown together, and really play ball as a team; each one of them could “hot dog it” with their skills, but they know each other so well, that playing as a team made them almost unbeatable. How important is basketball to our kids? Well, Chase put out this notice, and I think, given the way the team plays, that all of them play “for the love of the game.” They will play all their lives.

And, I think it’s grand that over the years, they grew together as they did.
Scott is staying at the Davenport Grand, where we were last March 2nd, 2023 for basketball tournaments. Last year, I snapped the top image with Scott down by the windows. It was my first time going out in public places since COVID. I went to the restaurant, not the game though. It was an eerie feeling getting back into the public sphere, and I was hesitant.
The Davenport Grand is in downtown Spokane, a few blocks from the Arena where the games are held. It’s decorated in what I’d call modern deco– even the rooms have chairs almost from the Jetson’s, but so geometric that they fit the style of modernized art deco. I’m certain they would have a different name for it, but that’s my take.
Look at how grand it is— such a wide entrance from the west side leading to the lobby area, which is also wide and grand with a bar and restaurant– lots of spaces to gather, talk, and eat. Extremely tall ceilings throughout this main floor make it open, and “grand.”
Having watched four seasons of Poirot for the fifth time, I could image myself entering in long, chic dresses draped in flowing coats with a host of tag-alongs of lady’s maids and luggage. LOL. Instead we struggled in dragging our own suitcases, backpacks, and computer cases.
Since I’m not at the game, I’ll share about the Grand.

Grand
Grand is
Sheri Edwards
cherry blossom pathway
in radiant pinks and reds;
chairs in old style brown leather
and white aged deco
lighted tallest ceilings
immense space for gathering
floor to ceiling glass entry
fit for a king
or you.
