Opportunity

A long time ago, my husband left his boat shoes in the garden…and this happened conversation happened:

Husband: Where are my boat shoes?
Me: The ones you left in the garden?
Husband: Yeah.
Me: They’re still in the garden.

He found his shoes.

In an email from Stacie Bloomfield, she sponsored a Five Day Challenge to develop a three-part art collection with tips for artists– for art and for business. Check out her blog and IG for other opportunities. The theme is: Flowers growing from objects and containers. So, my garden shoes fit perfectly to try the inspirational challenge from Stacie.

Part 1

sketch of hero, secondary pattern, blender pattern

Days 1 and 2 involved planning the collection and illustrating the “hero” stand alone art for the collection. Read about that here: Garden in a Shoe. As you can see, I sketched and illustrated the hero, a bouquet of flowers planted in shoes. I also sketched a secondary support pattern of the yellow flowers; I call them Perky Florals. And for the accompanying blender pattern, I chose a pattern with the 5-star center of the Perky Florals that I call Star Seeds.

Part 2

On Day 3, we took the sketch of the secondary pattern that supports the hero illustration and created the pattern.

On Day 4, we made the blender pattern from our initial sketches.

And on Day 5, we created a “tear sheet,” a display sheet of the three pieces to present to others who may be interested in purchasing the art. I created a template for Affinity Designer to use for my tear sheet. You may download it here.

Try It

Try the process. Check out Stacie’s blog and IG for other opportunities. This was definitely a worthwhile process and I’m so thankful that Stacie provided the challenge. Check out the shares of the challenge with the hashtag #StacieBloomfield5DayChallenge. I’m sure you’ll see how great it is to follow artists who inspire us to these challenges.
