Sunflower in Pastels

Local Flora Challenge

A pastel style sunflower [ arrowleaf balsamroot ] for the prompt  Local Flora for Shannon Mcnab’s 3×3 Sketch-Design-Repeat Challenge.

I completed the sketch from yesterday in pastels, using the Artist Pastel brushes by Lisa Bardot. They are smudgy, texturized brushes that add to the florals themselves, since the stems and leaves are filled with tiny hairs. I enjoyed how smooth the brushes flowed and easily added texture and shading. I created a spotlight of the tools and palette used:

I’ve been think about using a loose style for pattern after I create the vintage poster of the sunflower, a style like these, Contour Off Kilter.
