Seeds and Portrait Party

Hawthorn Pattern
One of the type of art I love to create are based on my own area and neighborhood, such as the sunflowers [arrowleaf balsamroot], globe mallow, our crab apple tree, and periwinkle.
One of my favorite trees in our yard is our hawthorn tree [see photo above]. I decided to make a trailing vine pattern based on that tree and its blossoms. So I’m retaking Barbel Dressler’s Trailing Pattern Class and combining it with the strategies of Bekki Flaherty.
Progress is slow, but here it is. Click an image to enlarge. I’ve created the trailing vine portion, chosen a palette and brushes [native Procreate brushes, but adapted], and started practicing the sketches. I’ve got the blossoms started, and must now adapt the leaves, which are pretty complicated with their three lobes with mini-lobes.
Try It
As you can see, I’m always busy, but some projects take more time. Art is now my passion, and I take lessons, practice, and combine strategies into my own projects. I am thankful that the technology we have allows for online lessons that are wonderful tutorials for learning. I’m thankful for my teachers.
We’re all on a learning journey and are in different places. If you’ve got a little hope to become an artist, just start. It’s the journey that matters. There are lots of people to support you!
