Version 2

Inspiration

I’m taking the Skillshare class from Tracey Capone using Affinity Designer: Surface Pattern Design Mockups From Vector Shapes | V2. I like how Tracey takes us step by step to complete tasks that lead to great projects and so much learning.  She starts with a basic project and builds to more complex ones with each one practicing the skill she’s teaching. In this class its making folds in fabric.

You can see my Skillshare project here: MockUps in Steps and my previous post: Hawthorn MockUps.

Yesterday, I finished the final project: a stack of fabrics [Post: Mockup Fabric Stack]. The mockup is created in Affinity Designer; my patterns I created in Procreate.

But the more I looked at the stack, the more I didn’t like the white fabric bolt: it didn’t seem curved to me. I asked Tracey for advice. [Discussion] Apparently, white is difficult to work with because it looks “shiny.” One of her suggestions was to add another dark color stop in the gradient. So I began playing around with the gradients, adding darker color stops at the right edge to make the “curve.” I like the results:

We are all at different points in our art journey. These projects with support from Tracey helped me practice using Affinity Designer, which is a vector and raster based application. Although there is MUCH to learn, it’s not difficult — a good teacher and lots of practice to understand how the different tools work together is so important. I’m thankful for Tracey in this case and that I have time to learn.

It’s worth it, don’t you think?

You’re welcome to follow this blog for art inspiration. We can share with #warmup4art to enjoy our work together! I look forward to your sharing and find me at @42Sheri, on Mastodon Sheri42, on Flickr teach.eagle Sheri 42.
