Portrait Final

Today I finished my Out of This World Portraits class with Charly Clements.

I chose the prompt: sunshine, curly hair, rosy cheeks. While following the process of Charly’s course, I learned:

  • Color theory and creating palettes
  • Choosing brushes
  • Drawing front, side, 3/4 views
  • Ways to draw noses and lips
  • Sketching versions of the chosen prompt
  • Creating Backgrounds
  • Choosing skin tones and colors that match
  • Refining the sketch
  • Trying color variations for the chosen sketch
  • Blocking colors
  • Adding details
  • Adding textures and filters
  • Making a signature brush

As you can see, the course is packed full of techniques for creating portraits that pop. My favorite parts were the side and 3/4 lessons and the nose and lips process. See my previous progress here: Out of this World Portraits.

Yesterday’s Color Variations

I really like purple, yellow, and teal so I tried a few variations with different hues. And I chose the 3/4 view, which I would normally not try, but now I have the technique for drawing as taught by Charly to get the position correct.

Here’s the final with no filters added:

The featured image at the top has a bit of “noise” and “chromatic aberration” added. Just a touch, about 6%.
