Inspiration

I jumped into Lisa Bardot’s Imaginative Map-Making course that includes a step by step how to and brushes to help make the map. Not only that, but the class also includes a “customizer” set and instructions for how to make your own brushes for the map elements you need. And to top it all off, Lisa shows you how to add chromatic aberration and noise to the map to give it the old “print” look. A great way to spend the day, relaxing in one’s imagination. See an intro here: Imaginative Map Making Intro.

Step by Step: My Maps

I’m a terrible student. I usually try my own way, so these maps aren’t the “cute” ones following those drawn by Lisa in the class, but my own imaginative maps while listening to the course. The first two were learning the process and I created a map of where we walk the dog and a map of our town. The next two are from our imaginations: an island, a desert. Finally we were tasked with creating a map of our own. Mine is from a novel I wrote for NaNoWriMo, So Says the Dragon. I created my own brushes too: snake, coyote, footprints, and fence stamps. The whole process is very fun to imagine and create a map that fits your world, real or otherwise.
