Inspiration
I received my monthly email from Bekki Flaherty today that included a link to a new trailing florals template and video on how to use it. I could not resist diving in. I’m planning a holiday mini-collection and this would fit by creating “Evergreen Florals” in a holiday/winter palette. You can see the palette in the tear sheet above– the tear sheet is another “freebie” from Bekki.
I’ve taken her classes before so it was a pretty quick tutorial for me. Even though I know how to use her templates, I always learn something new from her tutorials. This time she explained another way to fill color into a textured brush shape to eliminate the gap that is often created when filling color in Procreate.
Find Rebecca Flaherty on Cara and YouTube to keep up with her challenges, like the #52weeksofflorals, which I’ve been following but have not started. A few friends of mine are participating with that. Sign up for her newsletter and freebies at her Pattern Makers Toolkit site. You’ll love her templates, canvases, and tutorials. Find her on Etsy for the templates and canvases, to which you can get 10% off by signing up for the Pattern Makers Toolkit. Take a look! You’ll love her art and tutorials.
Evergreen Florals
The Evergreen Florals are a start to a holiday collection. I chose the palette first and decided to check out different versions of the background as I begin planning for the mini-collection. This will be one of the secondary patterns. I’m planning on a hero pattern with some fun funky birds as well as a few blenders. Bekki’s tutorial today gives me a start– I didn’t want to just do holly, so the tutorial provided inspiration for a different, holiday floral. The flower is a modification from a brush I made last year; the leaves are the shape of mistletoe, and of course the birds need berries.
I appreciate the tutorial, canvas, and trailing floral template from Rebecca Flaherty– it makes surface design less complicated.
