Inspiration
As I work on the Evergreen Palette and its Collection [see post on palette and poppies and the florals , I wondered what other coordinate could I include that would fit with the homey feeling of the holidays. How about gingham?
I could have played around with blend modes to figure out how to create the look of gingham, but I knew YouTube Artists would help. Sure enough, Strawbella Studio shared a quick method that allowed me to quickly create several color versions of gingham with the palette I’m using. That saved me a ton of time, and I hope my blog offers such tips and resources for you as I learn so we can learn together.

Next Steps
You know I’ve gotten way off track on my original plan. However, I’m loving the palette and the florals, so I’ll continue the quest to include my holiday birds. And there’s so much more to create for coordinating patterns, like leaves, berries, florals on their own or shapes like them.
This is not my usual process. I usually plan things out at least a little bit. Perhaps that’s my next step: sketching a plan. Once I get an idea though, I’m usually off to finish it.
How about you? Do you thoughtfully take the time to thumbnail sketches and then color versions? Or do you brainstorm sketch and then begin?
