Summer Retreat Thursday

Thursday IG Story Sticker by Sheri42

Inspiration

Today I started Peggy Dean’s Summer Creative Retreat, a six day all day event of artists sharing their thing. Check it out because here is just some of what I learned:

IG Story Stickers

Today we learned how to create IG Story Stickers with Laura Jones of Laura Jane Illustrations. See the THURSDAY image above for my first one. It’s created in Procreate, imported to Adobe Capture where the SVG is created and imported into Affinity Designer to adjust as needed. That’s pretty cool. I actually might create a reel now!

Shoutbam Script Lettering

Hi -- script by Sheri42

Jimbo Bernaus of Shoutbam Studio shared his four step process of designing script lettering. I’m still in the first step! Luckily, I’ve purchased the “Permanent Vacation” package of Peggy Dean’s Summer Creative Retreat, so I can watch again when I’m ready to design.

Fun Self-Portraits

Doriana Lucia of By Doriana Studio shared her process for drawing portraits. What a fun time– she’s a joyous artist who lets us into her style so we can develop our own. We drew Peggy!

Sketch Journaling

Keiko of The Aloha Studio shared her process for sketch journaling. I followed along on my iPad using Lisa Bardot’s Watercolor Wonders brush set. My birds are a little wacky, but I thoroughly enjoyed the process. Using it even on the iPad will provide practice in watercolor techniques and lettering. I loved it.

Drop Pattern

Finally, I practiced the drop pattern and learned a simple way to design motifs in the class by Jennifer Nichols of Leila and Po Studio [affiliate link]. Drop patterns make the design composite less easy to find so the pattern repeat is less obvious. That’s an important surface pattern design technique to learn! The best thing is that no two students would have the same design because we could draw our own flowers in our own styles and colors. What a fun class by one of my favorite teachers! I was able to create two versions:

Come join the fun!

Head on over to Peggy Dean’s Summer Creative Retreat website to see all the classes that include Procreate and other mediums. What a great summer vacation! Six days of great artist interaction and sharing while creating together with participants from 65 different countries! It’s a small world and we can learn together! Click the link in Jennifer’s post and join in! See you there!
