Inspiration
In Lisa Bardot’s Art Makers Club community, Lisa’s live lesson for the club this week was on creating a mini-collection. We learned to develop a palette, style, and theme with thumbnails to guide the collection.
This month’s prompts in Lisa’s Art Makers Club are the ABCs for animals. Find the prompts and join the fun at Making Art Everyday. Each prompt is linked to a google search page so you are always ready with inspiration. These are available for everyone.
My Collection
Lisa guided us in sketching, drawing, painting, and organizing each of three large birds so together they would complete a collection. We painted our ostrich, flamingo, and penguins, but chose our own reference and pose and details to form the collection. I used the club’s Bonus Set 3 brushes like Lisa demonstrated.
You can see similar background and grounding, the ball, animal style with same brushes, and a limited palette within the three pieces.
I decided my large birds would be playing a ball game. For the ball I drew and painted the ball with layers for shading, highlight, and one layer for colored stripes. That way I could duplicate the group and just change the stripe layer to make them look different. All three images have the light source in the same direction so I didn’t need to change the shadow/highlight layers, except I hid the highlight layer in the flamingo picture because the flamingo is blocking the light. I probably should have created a lightened background in the upper right and shadow in the lower left. I can revise that if I upload to a POD site. I think they turned out pretty cute!
