New Gouache Brushes from Jennifer Nichols
I wrote a post about Jennifer Nichols of Leila and Po Studio [affiliate link] and her amazing classes in her Creative Journey artist community. Her recent “Live Lesson” “Flowy Fall Color-Changing Gouache Pattern” is on YouTube; we learned about her new Procreate gouache brushes, ways to change their settings for using secondary colors, and how to make a quick scatter pattern. The canvas, brushes, and palette are available in the private Creative Journey community [affiliate link]. and one of the brushes is in the Freebies section if you sign up to her newsletter.. I’ve been playing with the brushes and pattern making for the last two days of my art time, which I wrote about here: Gouache Autumn Florals and WrapUp Watercolor and Gouache.
Today, I practiced a technique for drawing roses with the brushes. I used three of the brushes, one being the freebie Experiment. I duplicated it and then named it with the three percentages I changed in the brush’s preferences: color pressure of color dynamics. 10% for Saturation; 30% for Brightness, and 65% for secondary color. My hue is set always at 2%. The gouache burnt edge is for the veins and adding additional color to the edges of the rose petals, which I drew with the experiment brush. I just thought it needed a bit more dark along the edge.
