Inspiration
I’m still playing around with the gouache florals from Jennifer Nichols of Leila and Po Studio [affiliate link] and her recent “Live Lesson” “Flowy Fall Color-Changing Gouache Pattern” on YouTube; we learned about her new Procreate gouache brushes, ways to change their settings for using secondary colors, and how to make a quick scatter pattern. The canvas, brushes, and palette are available in the private Creative Journey community [affiliate link]. I’ve been playing with the brushes and pattern making, which I wrote about here: Journey in Autumn Florals. You can download my palette swatch for Procreate from that post.
I goofed a bit on the last design in that post– it’s still a pretty design, but I wanted the flowers and stems to be the same size. So today I redid the pattern so the center and corner motifs of the pattern match. The above piece is actually the 2×2 design because I shrunk the design in order to turn the center motif differently for each quadrant to create a more scattered pattern.
You can see this if you look at the very center motif of the above illustration. That motif became the four corners, and I created a new center motif to rotate. Around the center on the above illustration you may notice how the flowers “scatter” around that center motif. That’s because I rotated those motifs for each quadrant.
I circled those parts in this wikipaintia of the original pattern I redrew today. You can also notice what I changed– the tiny flowers of the base motif.

With today’s pattern, I created a tea towel with a quote as part of the @CatCoq challenge this week:

Try It
So open up Procreate and give it a try so you can create your own designs. If you don’t know how to use Procreate, Jennifer Nichols has a free class here: Free Procreate Course. If you have any questions, please ask! Thanks for stopping by!
