It’s Brushtober!
There’s so much to learn about Procreate brushes and painting digitally, and I’ve learned so much from Lisa Bardot of Art Makers Club. She has a six hour class for everything Procreate on Skillshare and in the Art Makers Club.
She’s having a sale on her brushes in October– 40% off the Master Bundle, so be sure to check out the bardotbrush website. I’m also a Founding Member of her Art Makers Club, which provides monthly tutorials and an active artist community. You can join in on many of the tutorials and the prompts for the Making Art Every Day Drawing Challenge she’s been running for six years. This month, it’s BRUSHTOBER! You can learn about it here.
To get us started, Lisa live draws and explains in the YouTube video “Drawing a Hedgehog in Procreate // Brushtober Tutorial ft. Pencil Box – October Sketch Sesh!” Lisa explains the challenge, which includes trying different styles using brush sets for pencils, inking, painting, and watercolor. Procreate has native brushes for all of these, so if you can join in. Then follow along to draw in digital pencils this adorable hedgehog, choosing your own pose from the links in the Making Art Every Day Drawing Challenge.
I added an acorn in a desert-like scene; both hedgehog and acorn is one of the prompts for the month.
Art Club Members enjoy more live draws and events related to the theme, which you can read about on the BRUSHTOBER! page.
Free Skillshare Replay on Choosing Brushes
Skillshare sponsored Lisa in a live demonstration about choosing brushes. Lisa breaks down the use of brushes with categories for which she provides a sample brush pack from each one:
- Sketching from her Pencil Box
- Inker from her Basic Toolkit
- Crumple Texture from her Watercolor Wonder
- Press Fine from her Texture Maker
- Toothy Pastel from her Artist’s Pastels
- Gritty Tilt Liner from her Gouache Paintbox
- Soft Shading for her Drawing Digital Book
- Specialty Combed from her Fur and Fluff.
It’s great to have these in one set, even though I already have all these brush sets since I’ve been learning from Lisa Bardot for several years. An important note is that if you’ve purchased Lisa’s brushes, and she updates them, you are able to download the updated set from your account! It’s always a good idea to buy brushes directly from the artist. You can use her brushes [but not give them away] for personal and commercial use with no restrictions.
