Our Crab Apple Trees
Along the boulevard on the side of the house and up and down the street, small crab apple trees bring joy in all seasons. Follow the flow of the images above, left to right from autumn to summer. Starting in autumn through winter, my husband shakes the limbs with a rake to feed the mule deer that amble through our town. [video]. The bright red of the little apples color the white of winter, such a delight to see for me and for the mule deer and wild turkeys!
Field Notes

The autumn sky of brightest blues accentuates the green of yellowing leaves and the juicy red of the little crab apples. All afternoon a few mule deer mosey along the parking strip, stopping to munch on the fallen apples. If Scott’s outside, they stop and stare at him, asking, “Are you going to drop more apples now?”
And that, of course, inspires a haiku.

Crab Apple Inspired Poetry and Art

The wonderful spirit of the crab apple trees have inspired art and poetry. I’ve gathered a few of the links on my art/poetry blog in One Tab here: Crab Apple Posts. My favorite post and poem is one written in winter, when the stark contrast of grey and whites to the bright red of the little apples are accentuated when the winter sun and a blue sky sparkle through the cold. Apricity means the “warmth of the winter sun.” Just the word warms me as it now triggers the memory of our little crab apple tree shining in the winter sun. The poem is “Warmth of the Winter Sun.” It’s the first link in the list.

Greeting Card

inspired pattern
The winter sun and its warmth, apricity, inspired a crab apple pattern, the palette and the pattern above along with an Earth Day card based on the crab apple blossoms You can find my greeting card and postcard on Zazzle. Inside the cards say: “Every day is Earth Day. Enjoy and protect its beauty.” See Apricity Crab Apple art in fabric, home decor, and wallpaper on Spoonflower here: Apricity Crab Apple.
