along Banks Lake, Wa; a poem: I Am Thankful No matter the chaos of losing one’s life savings as the country I love is dissolved— I am thankful for the warmth of the evening sun shining on my smiles, the rush of a gentle breeze from the marsh as it slips through my hair, the evensong of red-winged blackbirds clinging to last year’s cattails along Banks Lake as we, my best friends, the dog and he, laugh and walk at day’s end. I Am Thankful

No matter
the chaos
of losing one’s
life savings
as the country
I love
is dissolved—
I am thankful
for the warmth
of the evening sun
shining on my smiles,
the rush of
a gentle breeze
from the marsh
as it slips
through my hair,
the evensong
of red-winged blackbirds
clinging to last year’s
cattails along Banks Lake
as we,
my best friends,
the dog and he,
laugh and walk
at day’s end.
