Wednesday Wrap Up Block Prints Florals and Birds

Welcome!

On most Wednesdays, check this blog for a strategy, process, or reflection for illustration with the iPad app ProCreate or Affinity Designer. This week my art and photography included 100 day project, Spoonflower challenges, and poetry/photography.

The 100 Day Project

The 100 Day Project from Lindsay Jean Thomson with a websiteIG, and podcast. The hashtag is #the100dayproject.

The goal is to make a plan for drawing every day for 100 days– five to ten minutes. That seems doable, doesn’t it? What if you miss a day — listen here. My advice: enjoy it; don’t worry if you miss, just keep going as you can.

I’ve already completed 20 rabbits — find them all in the Bunnies and Bears post. I share all 20 of the bears here. And now I’m working on 20 birds, as you can see in the illustrations above.

Come and join the fun. Just use hashtag #the100dayproject

Poetry / Photography

Ribes cereum, is a type of currant native to western North America with poem: tiny pink petals delicate clusters of bells silenced; will we be? Sheri Edwards

Every April I take part in NaPoWriMo: National Poetry Writing Month. This is today’s poem with a photo I took today of Ribes cereum, is a type of currant native to western North America. Find all of this year’s poems here: NaPoWriMo25.

Block Print Florals

Another Spoonflower Design Challenge, Block Print Florals, captured my time this week. I tried several designs, but was not please with any of them, so I started over. Do you know that feeling? Then I was inspired by many of the block print fabrics on Spoonflower that were placed in diamond patterns. So I decided to try that, with the lovely Yellow Salsify flower that grows all over North America. Here is an earlier illustration and the photo I took from a walk.

Floral Block Print Wildflower Yellow

Yellow wildflower in modern block print pattern, a classic bloom in a cohesive diamond display sure to add a touch of countryside to brighten any wall.

Hike to find this bright yellow flower, a dash of sunshine that is wide open all day and closed night. Inspired by yellow salsify on my walks.

These will be added to my Coulee Country collection and series of wildflowers in our local area. I still need to add texture to the top left dotted design as well as a series of blenders. Then the Yellow Salsify Collection will be complete.

Thanks for stopping by!

It’s been a busy week for writing, drawing, and patterns!

Even when a pattern doesn’t work out, I enjoy the work– I know why it didn’t work: too angled, too crowded, color differences. But, we were all beginners once! If you have any questions, just ask! I’d be glad to help with what I know. Find time to make art every day!

You can find many helpful artists teachers on my Artist Resources  page. Take a look at their IG and YouTube. Find one that fits your learning and art preferences and stick with them a while to develop your skills. Every day, another aha!

You’re welcome to follow this blog for art inspiration. We can share with #warmup4art to enjoy our work together! I look forward to your sharing and find me at @42Sheri, on Mastodon Sheri42, on Flickr teach.eagle Sheri 42.
