Wednesday WrapUp Birds, Palettes, Peas

Welcome!

On most Wednesdays, check this blog for a strategy, process, or reflection for illustration with the iPad app ProCreate or Affinity Designer. This week my art and photography included 100 day project, Spoonflower challenges, a Procreate Party with Peggy Dean, and poetry/photography.

The 100 Day Project

I’ve finished days 41-60 of The 100 Day Project from Lindsay Jean Thomson, who has a websiteIG, and podcast. The hashtag is #the100dayproject.

The goal is to make a plan for drawing every day for 100 days– five to ten minutes. That seems doable, doesn’t it?

I’ve already completed 20 rabbits here in the Bunnies and Bears post. I share all 20 of the bears here. Today is the last of the 20 birds for the project, as shown in the image above.

The benefit of this project is that I try different styles/mediums. I’m still best with gouache, watercolor, and stylized illustrations. I tried the flying barn swallow [Day 56] so many times in different styles; not all are included, and the only one I like is the last, the watercolor, Day 57. It was very frustrating, but I did recognize what works best for my intentions.

Next up are 20 dogs.

Colorways in a Meadow

Colorways of Diamond Pattern Florals by Sheri42

I took two classes from Peggy Dean and bought several of her books. They’re the line drawing books that help me develop a process and confidence in my sketches. Besides, I also like contour, linocut, and silhouette/folk art styles that flow from line drawing sketches.

The first class was Pattern Play with Stylized Flowers, which became several birthday cards because of the second class, Procreate Palette Builder. I learned to create a palette based on colors I like, adding light and darker versions in analogous and various complementary harmonies. I used those palettes to create different colorways for the floral patterns, colors that the card recipients would love.

Shhh. Don’t share this: Marisa’s is for next week. These are her favorite colors.

Shooting Star Blenders

I added a few blenders for the different colorways of the Shooting Star pattern, one of my Coulee Country wildflowers. I see I need to add a darkened background for the golden stripes for consistency of the designs. I also want to add the herring bone too for those colorways. When I finish the darker background for the golden color way, I’ll upload these to Spoonflower.

I also uploaded the Spoonflower Design Challenge for Pet Doodles, using the one I’d drawn earlier.

Poetry

Every day in April, I write a poem for National Poetry Writing Month [NaPoWriMo]. Here I am writing today’s poem at Banks Lake with the dog after our walk. You can see all my poems here: The Daily: Poetry

Thanks for stopping by!

It’s been a busy week for writing, drawing, and patterns!

I’ve enjoyed the 60 days of drawing bunnies, bears, and birds and now I start 20 days of dogs and 20 days of cats. I find myself exploring different media when I decide to finish a drawing based on a sketch. If you have any questions about my process, just ask! I’d be glad to help with what I know. Find time to make art every day!

You can find many helpful artists teachers on my Artist Resources  page. Take a look at their IG and YouTube. Find one that fits your learning and art preferences and stick with them a while to develop your skills. Every day, another aha!

You’re welcome to follow this blog for art inspiration. We can share with #warmup4art to enjoy our work together! I look forward to your sharing and find me at @42Sheri, on Mastodon Sheri42, on Flickr teach.eagle Sheri 42.
