Quiet Lullaby
A breeze flows across the lake
Sheri Edwards
beneath a blue sky
peppered in growing clouds;
the dog pauses to capture the scent
flowing through the dry, rustling cattails;
the blackbirds and wrens hide silently away
as the sun’s warmth soothes me
into a nap in nature’s quiet lullaby.

I bring a chair to enjoy the quiet as the dog wanders after our daily walk. Such a great dog: He just wanders in and out of the water and cattails. He doesn’t chase deer. He listens for sounds. Wanders to sniff at a curious movement or sound. He just stays by me and gently touches my knee with his nose if someone or something is coming near. And so the quiet often puts me to sleep. LOL.
