Twenty Days of Dogs

Day 77 #the100dayproject by Sheri42 sitting dog watercolor

The 100 Day Project

The 100 Day Project I participate in is from Lindsay Jean Thomson with a websiteIG, and podcast. The hashtag is #the100dayproject.

The goal is to make a plan for drawing every day for 100 days– five to ten minutes. That seems doable, doesn’t it? I’ve completed:

and now twenty days [61-80 of the 100] of dogs. I drew my dog, some rectangular quick sketch dogs, many watercolor portraits, a few watercolor dogs, and a set of dogs that are quickly painted considering their shapes and features, like long or short fur, spots, or floppy jowls. I ended with the usual: outline, silhouette, and folk art.

I want to give a shout out to Calvin of Drifter Studio for two of his tutorials. As I said when I started this section, dogs are not easy to draw: so many shapes and sizes, include shapes and sizes of EARS! But with the help of Calvin’s tutorials, I was able to get a better sense of simplifying while still capturing personalities of our best friends, the dog. I already had his brushes and canvases– so following along and getting the same results was easy.

If you’re struggling with drawing dogs, try these tutorials from Calvin:

And now: Day 81, the first day of twenty cats, which are so much easier to draw. For this cat, I followed along with Jennifer Nichols tutorial in her Creative Journey community [affiliate link], adapting the eyes and ears and creating a unique background.

I’ve enjoyed drawing 20 days of dogs–to capture my own little [LOL] dog’s personality. If you have any questions about my process, just ask! I’d be glad to help with what I know.

You can find many helpful artists teachers on my Artist Resources  page. Take a look at their IG and YouTube. Find one that fits your learning and art preferences and stick with them a while to develop your skills. Every day, another aha!

How about joining in for the last 20 days of drawing everyday? Let us know what you’re drawing!

You’re welcome to follow this blog for art inspiration. We can share with #warmup4art to enjoy our work together! I look forward to your sharing and find me at @42Sheri, on Mastodon Sheri42, on Flickr teach.eagle Sheri 42.
