The 100 Day Project
The 100 Day Project I participate in is from Lindsay Jean Thomson with a website, IG, and podcast. The hashtag is #the100dayproject.
The goal is to make a plan for drawing every day for 100 days– five to ten minutes. That seems doable, doesn’t it? I’ve completed:
and now twenty days [81-100 of the 100] of cats.
Cats are much easier than dogs: their shape is the same, unless you’re drawing wild cats, which I am not. I am drawing pets, including my own cat, though I’m finding drawing her difficult since she is a cross between a tabby cat and a tortoise shell cat, giver her the famous title: cat with tortitude — attitude. She’s a wild one.
I do have a set of cat greeting cards already up on Zazzle. And I love creating fanciful, fun cats. I’m especially thankful to Jennifer Nichols Creative Journey Community [affiliate link] because just before I started this cat drawing experience, she taught us simple ways to draw cats in different views, including how to illustrate cat eyes, as in this illustration:

So with the help of Jennifer and my own cat, here’s the gallery so far. Click to enlarge. I mostly start with a sketch, then a base coat, then add the color and fur. Finally details like the eyes. I use chalky or watercolor brushes from Jennifer’s cat lesson.

My first attempt at my cat, day 84:

If you have any questions about my process, just ask! I’d be glad to help with what I know.
You can find many helpful artists teachers on my Artist Resources page. Take a look at their IG and YouTube. Find one that fits your learning and art preferences and stick with them a while to develop your skills. Every day, another aha!
How about joining in for the last 20 days of drawing everyday? Let us know what you’re drawing!
You’re welcome to follow this blog for art inspiration. We can share with #warmup4art to enjoy our work together! I look forward to your sharing and find me at @42Sheri, on Mastodon Sheri42, on Flickr teach.eagle Sheri 42.

I’m glad you’ve discovered Calvin’s work. I learn so much from him– and he responds to questions right away too. I like taking his tutorials even though they are mostly similar– but they help build the process into my memory so I can apply them to my own work.
