Democracy

Of the people, by the people, for the people: all the people. Democracy is what we do. It’s not just a form of government — it’s a way of living together, solving problems together, joining together to help the community. No matter our differences, we find ways to make our area better, together, for everyone.

It’s also a Christian way of life — accepting and helping others as shown and commanded by Jesus: love thy neighbor, help the sick, shelter the homeless, etc.

In the United States, we care for one another– and our locally elected officials created programs to better provide support for those who need it — Veterans support, healthcare, help for the homeless, etc.

We learned from one another– foods, dances, music, caring, etc. We welcomed all. We promoted the general welfare for all of us. We saw inequities and we created ways for everyone to have access to opportunities. People challenged with disabilities. People without resources. We weren’t perfect, but we tried– “in order to form a more perfect union.” And it started with our locally elected officials we sent to Washington, DC as our voice.

Now those voices are silenced by the eliminating and gutting of the services on which people depend. And, by the gutting and canceling, the power of our locally elected officials is gone– our voices through them are gone.

Who’s in charge now? Not us. And what do they want? Not a democracy. Not diversity. Not equity. Not inclusion. Only certain people will be rewarded. Our voices are lost. We are no longer free.

So, I created this sign in hues of brown to try to represent “all of us.” I uploaded the design to Zazzle on an apron, then ordered it to see how it looked:

It arrived today:

Diversity is our strength; equity is our opportunity; inclusion is our humanity-- on a pocketed apron; Sheri42

As you can see, some of the letters don’t pop, so I revised the design [at top] and will order another one. Even though the design looked fine by itself on my screen, in reality, its message gets lost in its own background. I lightened the background and added a shadow to the smaller letters so they’d show up better. I hope that will help; we’ll see when that apron arrives.

Original Design:

Democratic Values Diversity is our strength. Equity is our opportunity. Inclusion is our humanity.

This is an important lesson that many of my teachers remind us of: order your own products to be sure the result is your intention.

Note about the apron: I love this apron design — adjustable neck strap, 3 pockets, fairly heavy fabric to hold up to wear. Best apron I’ve seen so far!

Note about revising on Zazzle: Easy to do– the “edit your design” kept the design information, which is so nice. Then you republish and get a new link. Delete the old item, if needed.
