Wednesday WrapUp Stickers And More

WA State Flower rhododendron sticker by Sheri42

Welcome!

On most Wednesdays, check this blog for a strategy, process, or reflection for illustration with the iPad app ProCreate or Affinity Designer. This week I finished a “drawing cats” for #the100dayproject, created a few stickers, and designed for another Spoonflower Design Challenge.

Stickers

I’ve been thinking about opening up an Etsy shop, starting with stickers. I’m learning from Liz Kohler Brown’s tutorials in the The Studio community. She has a collection of tutorials for making stickers, including a wonderful workbook to get started. I started that after beginning her course on starting an Etsy shop, because I needed products like stickers before I open a shop. I’m excited about this journey.

Here are a few of the stickers I’ve created so far — just learning. I know I can make better ones. The popsicle stickers are adapted from a tutorial by Teela Cunningham of EveryTuesday on YouTube. Lisa Bardot also has a series about making stickers. So you might want to join me in figuring this out — there’s plenty of how-tos out there.

The Friends of Grand Coulee Area Library is a sticker using the logo I created for the group, of which I am a member. It incorporates our sunny skies over the famous Steamboat Rock on Banks Lake. I just ordered both the WA rhododendron stickers and the library stickers from Printful. I’ll post about those when they arrive.

Spoonflower Palm Springs Design Challenge

On Monday, I realized that the next challenge was due Tuesday, the Palm Springs Design Challenge, featuring mid-century style and colors. I chose the mint green, pink blush, and soft yellow suggested colors and took note of the key words [in bold below] in the description to decide on my pattern, which would be shown as wallpaper.

I Left My Sunglasses in Palm Springs

Cool, retro mid-century oasis in the sunny desert sand; Geometric shapes, palm leaves in mint green, blush pink, soft yellow; my sunglasses left there.

A Palm Springs Getaway amid the palm leaves and desert sand— mid-century clean lines in soft pastels and earthy background. Remember your sunglasses. Inspired by retro colors and nostalgia for the shapes of a sunny vacation in Palm Springs.

This would be a rushed piece, but I already had palm leaves ready to go. I colored them in the pastel colors, arranged them into a pattern, and then looked back to the description of the challenge for how to make it retro and mid-century. Geometric shapes, Palm Springs as a sunny desert get-away caught my eye. I added three geometric frames with geometric shapes within them in the same pastel colors, just a bit darker. I created a light sand color dotted background. I added sunglasses scattered around, which got me to my title and story.

I usually create florals and woodlands. But this pattern is growing on me. I think I’m going to order a table cloth for picnics. Click an image to view on Spoonflower. What do you think?

#the100dayproject completed

Title page for my 100 day project: 20 bunnies, 20 bears, 20 birds, 20 dogs, 20 cats

The 100 Day Project I participate in is from Lindsay Jean Thomson with a websiteIG, and podcast. The hashtag is #the100dayproject. Find all posts for the project here: the100dayproject.

The goal was to make a plan for drawing every day for 100 days– five to ten minutes. That seems doable, doesn’t it? I’ve planned for and completed:

To see them all at once, check out my Google Photo Album.

From my 20 Cats page:

Many days were just five minutes of thinking and drawing, and others were longer than ten minutes. The same is true for the entire 100 drawings and paintings.

Many of the pieces from the daily drawing became patterns or cards, demonstrating the importance of drawing every day.

Thanks for stopping by!

It’s been a busy week for and a change of pace with the sticker goals! If you have any suggestions or questions about making or selling stickers, please share and ask. And, I hope the Spoonflower Challenges capture your attention and I see your work there!

I’ve enjoyed the daily drawings of birds, bunnies, bears, dogs, and cats. It’s rewarding as well when my daily drawings inspire several pattern designs for challenges and cards to add for sale or gifts. If you have any questions about my process, just ask! I’d be glad to help with what I know. Find time to make art every day!

You can find many helpful artists teachers on my Artist Resources  page. Take a look at their IG and YouTube. Find one that fits your learning and art preferences and stick with them a while to develop your skills. Every day, another aha!

You’re welcome to follow this blog for art inspiration. We can share with #warmup4art to enjoy our work together! I look forward to your sharing and find me at @42Sheri, on Mastodon Sheri42, on Flickr teach.eagle Sheri 42.

Yes stickers -- and more challenges plus finished with the cats for #the100dayproject; importance of daily practice
