Design Challenge Retro and Toile

Design Challenges

I love participating in Spoonflower Design Challenges. June 4th I shared the Palm Springs design in the WrapUp. I always feel great when I break the 1000th mark. I was 949th in that design. But on my Toile with a Twist, I placed 717th! That was awesome. I’ve also entered the Retro Halloween which is up for voting until July 1st.

The prompts are open, but with parameters. That’s what makes it fun. Doing one’s own take on what the prompt requires. And voting helps to develop an eye for what to improve on the next time while viewing all the submissions.

Retro Halloween

Retro Halloween Cats Bats and Witches Hats

Come to the retro pumpkin patch where ghosts dance and pumpkins glow amongst the black cats, purple bats, and witches’ hats;  bring playful midcentury fun to Halloween events, projects. Inspired by grandkids.

Delightful, retro Halloween fun with eerie tree shadows in a whimsical pumpkin patch where witches lose their hats and black cats screech at bats while ghosts float beneath a crescent moon.

I used a diamond template and the idea of toile de jouy — scenes of two stories in a pumpkin patch, complete with those eerie shadows to fill the space and story. I added retro line work and a bit of whimsy. There’s even a little mouse peeking out from behind a pumpkin. I probably should have narrowed the color palette to be more midcentury. I tried adding half-tones, but it just didn’t look right; too messy. But, I do know that my great-grandkids will love this design.

Folk Art Bunnies in my Flowers —Toile de Jouy

Oh- The Rabbits Love My Daisies- Modern Toile de Jouy in Vibrant Colors

Folk art rabbits enjoy daisies in my garden; They hide in the vibrant, neon florals —do you see them munching petal by petal?

Scenes of little folk art style bunnies enjoying the daisies in my garden; designed in vibrant orange, green and purple. Fun towel for cooking and cleaning up with kids.

I wrote about this design here: Toile de Jouy of Folk Art Rabbits. That post includes links to some of the design products. The design started as part of my #the100dayproject and expected bold and vibrant colors. My two year old great-granddaughter LOVES these bunnies and the orange flowers!

And surprise! 717th! That’s an improvement! And those little bunnies I made in the draw every day project have been a great inspiration now for two challenges!
